Donate nowSend a Cow is a Christian charity that helps some of the poorest families in Africa by providing training in sustainable farming and resources such as livestock, seeds and trees. All families helped by Send a Cow pass on an offspring of their animal to another family, so more and more families are getting milk to drink, crops to eat, and money to pay for schooling. In fact, for every family Send a Cow helps directly, another 9 go on to benefit. Today, there are 6,000 families on Send a Cow's waiting list.
Send a Cow were founded in 1988 by a group of UK farmers who sent cows to families in post-conflict Uganda. They treat all people equally regardless of race, gender or creed. All those they work with undertake to pass on the benefits they gain, such as livestock and skills, to another family, so Send a Cow's work goes on multiplying throughout communities.
Although Send a Cow have helped thousands of families across Africa, they are quite a small organization in the UK and rely greatly on their fantastic network of volunteers. Their Head Office is based in Newton St. Loe just outside Bath and they have offices in four African countries (Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia and Lesotho), and work with a wide range of partners, particularly the non-governmental organization Heifer International. Send a Cow always work with community groups, which are selected by their African staff on the basis of need.

How your donations to Send A Cow Charity will be used?
Send a Cow work with rural community groups in nine countries in Africa, providing small-scale farmers with the skills and resouces to feed their families and earn an income. Your donations help fund the following work undertaken by Send a Cow:
- Sustainable agricultural training, following the principle of integrating crops and livestock
- Livestock (bought in Africa) and training in animal husbandry
- Environmental sustainability training to ensure that land is protected for future generations
- Social development support to strengthen groups so they can move towards self-sufficiency
- Support and follow up from staff until community members are able to support each other
- The pass-on principle, by which farmers pass on the benefits (eg the first female offspring of their livestock and the skills they have learned) to another family
Your donation will mean some of the poorest families in Africa will receive training in sustainable farming and resources such as livestock, seeds and trees. Be inspired to tackle poverty and walk alongside one of three African families through a monthly donation!
