It's a sad fact that each year, around 6 million farm animals are transported huge distances across Europe for slaughter or further fattening. Many of these journeys can last over 30 hours - the worst can take 70 hours. Packed into hot, overcrowded trucks, sheep, pigs and cattle are suffering from hunger, thirst, exhaustion, injuries and lameness. In the worst cases, many die before they reach their destination.
These distressed and scared animals are suffering!
Compassion in World Farming is the leading charity working to end cruelty to farm animals. Since we began campaigning to end live animal exports over 30 years ago there has been a significant reduction in the number of long-distance journeys. But sadly, all too often animals are still transported long distances without adequate food, water or rest. Compassion's investigations unit works tirelessly to reveal and document those who inflict pain and suffering on farm animals. They are determined to expose those who breach the law and will continue to use footage to make formal complaints to the European Commission.
If you believe that long distance transport cruelty is wrong and unnecessary, please support Compassion in World Farming today!
