Greenpeace exists because this fragile earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs change. It needs action.

Greenpeace are an independent non-profit global campaigning organisation that uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems and their causes. They research solutions and alternatives to help provide a path for a green and peaceful future.

Greenpeace's independence is crucial to their work which is why they will never accept money from companies or political organisations. It is also why they need the support of individuals to continue their work protecting and preserving the worlds environment.

Greenpeace have been campaigning against environmental degradation since 1971, when a small boat of volunteers and journalists sailed into Amchitka, an area north of Alaska, where the US government was conducting underground nuclear tests. This tradition of 'bearing witness' in a non-violent manner continues today.

How your donations to Greenpeace UK Charity will be used?

Greenpeace defend the natural world and promote peace by investigating, exposing and confronting environmental abuse, and championing environmentally responsible solutions. Their solutions cover climate change, forests, oceans, nuclear power, peace, genetically modified food and toxic chemicals.

Greenpeace has played a pivotal role in, among other things, the adoption of:

• a ban on toxic waste exports to less developed countries
• a moratorium on commercial whaling
• a United Nations convention providing for better management of world fisheries
• a Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary
• a 50 year moratorium on mineral exploitation in Antarctica
• bans on the dumping at sea of radioactive and industrial waste and disused oil installations
• an end to large-scale driftnet fishing on the high-seas
• a ban on all nuclear weapons testing - their first ever campaign
